Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Fantastic 2 Gallon Decorated Jug made and stamped by "J. & E. Norton, Bennington, VT."
This is the work of Julius Norton and his cousin, Edward Norton who worked in Bennington using this mark from 1850-1859 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp, 42).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Bird on a Stump Decoration Executed with a Slip Cup Using Dark and Shiny Cobalt. A Norton classic that is a feast for the eyes! Stands 14" tall.
Excellent Condition. Some light staining from use. That's it! No chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. A 1 1/2" drying/firing line at the bottom of the right side that wraps under 2" in the making and glazed over (closeup).
