Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "J. Burger, Jr., Rochester, N.Y."
This is the work of John Burger, Jr. who ran the Burger family pottery in Rochester from 1880-1890 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 74).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, Freehand Capacity Number, and a Tulip Executed with a Slip Cup in Bold Cobalt. The tulip sports two leaves and a blossom with five petals. All the decoration is accented with stripes. Stands 13 1/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. A single, minor 1/2" wide stain on the back. That's it! No chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration! Exceptionally clean.
