    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 5 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "J. Burger, Jr., Rochester, N.Y."

     

    "This is the work of John Burger, Jr. who ran the pottery in Rochester from 1880-1890 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 74).

     

    This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, a Freehand Capacity Number "5", and a Large Flower Executed with a Slip Cup. The floral has six leaves accented with stripes, and a blossom with wavy edge that encapsulates the date 1881.  Measures 12 1/2" tall and 13" wide across the top.  

     

    Fair to Good Condition.  A 1" chip inside the rim, glaze flakes on the right side, a crack froom the rim to near the bottom on the back, and isolated staining.  No outer rim or base chips, or restoration.
