Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Ovoid Jug made and stamped by "I. Seymour & Co., Troy."
This is the mark of Israel Seymour who ray a pottery in Troy under this stamp from 1837-1852. (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware , p. 66)
This beauty sports a Large 3 Gallon Size in an Early Ovoid Form (an uncommon combination), the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and an Incised Flower. The flower has 5 leaves, and a blossom with cross-cross center and two overlayed sets of 5 petals-- all with cobalt fill. Stands 16 1/4."
Excellent condition. Some spots of light staining from use, and a 1/4" chip on the underside at the edge. That's it! No spout chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. An iron ping on the side of the handle the created surface-only line around part of the handle in the making (closeup).
A large, early ovoid jug by Seymour with incised floral. Hard to find a better example!
