Item 4104

Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this spectacular 1 Gallon Stoneware Decorated Cake Crock.

The decoration indicates that this beauty was made by Henry Remmey, Jr. of Philadelphia who ran the family pottery in Philadelphia from the 1820's to the 1850's (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 8-10).

Dating about 1850, this beauty features a very desirable Garland of Leaves all Around the Top with Two Dangling Flowers and a Large Cobalt Dot on Each Side, and an Upright Flower  Standing on a Loop in the Garland under Each Handle.  The cobalt is thickly applied and dark and shiny.  Measures 6" tall and 9 1/2" wide across the top.

Very Good Condition. A series of small nibbles around the outside of the rim, two chips at the base (3/4", 1"), a faint 2" hairline on the bottom, and some staining one one side at the bottom to the right.  No inner rim chips, rim-down hairlines, or restoration.
