Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1/2 Gallon Jug made for "Hayner, Dayton, Ohio, Lock Box 290."
Hayner was a distillery in Troy, Ohio with a branch in Dayton. It was in business from 1866 to 1920.
The bottom of the jug sports the embossed initials, "E. S. & B." indicating that it was made by Elverson, Sherwood, and Barker of New Brighton, Pennsylvania. This company was in business from 1881-1890. (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners. pp. 140-142).
Dating between 1881 and 1890, this beauty features a "Bottle with Handle" Form, the Company Advertising Below the Handle, and Pottery Mark on the Bottom. Stands 9 1/4" tall.
Very Good Condition. A 1 1/4" chip on the bottom edge on one side (closeup). Otherwise as made.
