Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Crock made for the merchants, "Hayes & Douglass, Portland, ME."
The decoration strongly indicates that Hayes and Douglass hired the Ottman Brothers of Fort Edward to make their wares (1872-1892).
This beauty features a Sturdy and Thick Rim, Inscribed Shoulder, Applied Handles, Merchant Advertising with Cobalt Wash, and a Bluebird on a Branch Decoration. Measures 9 1/4" tall and 9 3/4" wide across the top.
Very Good Condition. Three minor 1/8" nibbles and a narrow 1/2" chip inside the rim, eight minor 1/8" nibbles and three chips on the outside of the rim (1/4" to 1/2"), a 3/16" chip on the left handle, and a couple faint surface lines on the back (closeup). No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. A 1" drying/firing line in the front bottom in the making.
