Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 4 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "Haxstun, Ottman & Co., Fort Edward, N.Y."
This is the stamp of Andrew K. Haxstun and William and Gilbert Ottman who ran the company from 1867-1872 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 68).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Large Bird on a Branch Executed with a Slip Cup in Very Bright Cobalt Blue. The decoration was signature for the potteries of Fort Edward. This bird is a real standout in gorgeous cobalt on a light and clean background glaze. Measures 11 1/2" tall and wide across the top.
Excellent Condition. A single backward "L" glaze-only line above the tail feather (closeup 1). That's it! No chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. Seven surface-only firing lines at the rim, mainly above the handles (closeup 2).
