Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "Haxstun, Ottman & Co., Fort Edward, N.Y."
This is the stamp of Andrew K. Haxstun and William and Gilbert Ottman who ran the company from 1867-1872 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 68).
This beauty sports the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Chicken Pecking Corn Decoration. The chicken stands on plenty of ground cover as she hunts those last kernels of corn. Deep, pretty, and shiny cobalt. Fine artistry from a trained and skilled hand. Measures 10 1/2" tall and 11" wide across the top.
Excellent Condition. A few knife marks inside from use, a 1" narrow rough patch on the back of the left handle, some scattered light staining, and some innocuous exfoliation on the center underside. No rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
I don't often have signed chicken pecking corn crocks due to their scarcity, so if you want one, here she is!
