Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this uncommon 1Gallon Wax Sealer Canning Jar made by "Hamilton & Jones, Manufacturers, Greensboro, PA."
This is the work of Frank Hamilton and John Jones who worked in Greensboro, Pennsylvania from 1865 to 1897 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157).
Circa 1875, this beauty features the Wax Sealer Form and a Large Patriotic Shield Hosting the Company Advertising Inside and Underscored by a Garland. This decoration corresponds to other patriotic symbols used by this pottery at the time of the nation's centennial in 1876. Stands 10 1/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. A couple of 1/4" chips inside the outer rim. That's it! No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains. or restoration. Excess salt glaze on the lower front and two short surface drying lines and a stone ping on the back bottom- all in the making.
