Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this superb 3 Gallon Stoneware Jar made by "Hamilton and Jones, Greensboro, PA."
This is the work of Frank Hamilton and John Jones who worked in Greensboro, Pennsylvania from 1865 to 1897 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157).
Circa 1880, this beauty features Top to Bottom Decoration. From the top down are two straight stripes framing the rim, a wavy stripe cascading across the shoulder, the company advertising framing a floral and accented by tulips in the upper corners occupying the middle, and the capacity number framed by 3 dashes and underscored by a straight stripe capping the decoration at the bottom. Strong, complete, and crisp decoration. Stands 14" tall.
Exceptional Condition. As made. No damage of any kind. A small kiln touch on the center row of diamonds to the far right in the making.
