    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Gorgeous 3 Gallon Jug made by "Star Pottery, that is, Hamilton & Jones of Greensboro, Pennsylvania."  


    This is the work of Frank Hamilton and John Jones who worked in Greensboro from 1865 to 1897 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157). 


    Dating to the 1870's, this beauty features Six Graded Stripes at the Top, a Patriotic Eagle in Flight with a Banner in His Mouth Reading "Star Pottery," a Clutch of Arrows in his Right Talon, Sheaves of Wheat in His Left, a Freehand Capacity Number Flanked by 4 Dashes, and a Bottom Stripe.  Lots to look at here!  Stands 17 1/4" tall. 


    Excellent Condition.  A couple minor 1/8" nibbles on the spout, and a 1/2" chip on top of the handle.  That's it!  No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  Some surface lines around the shoulder from either the kiln firing or age, but no hairlines (closeup).
