Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Jar made by "Hamilton & Jones, Manufacturers, Greensboro, PA."
This is the work of Frank Hamilton and John Jones who worked in Greensboro, Pennsylvania from 1865 to 1897 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157).
Dating around 1880, this beauty features Two Top and One Bottom Stripe that Frame the Company Advertising Intertwined in a Patriotic Shield, and Underscored by a Garland of Grain and a Capacity Number Flanked by Leaves. The decoration is complete, crisp, and in strong cobalt blue-- which is saying a lot for a large stencil like this. Stands 11 5/8" tall.
Very Good Condition. Water glass staining inside and some faint traces outside on the back, a faint 1 1/2" line at the base in the back that wraps under 3" (closeup), and some surface wear. No rim or base chips, cracks, or restoration.
I have not seen this large shield decoration in a very long time.
