Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Jar made by "Hamilton & Jones, Greensboro, Greene Co., PA."
This is the work of Frank Hamilton and John Jones who worked in Greensboro, Pennsylvania from 1865 to 1897 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 154-157).
Dating around 1870, this jar is a stunner! It features 4 Top Stripes, the Company Advertising in an Early Form with "Greene Co." Included, and 2 Bottom Stripes. The clay is a light gray clay from a glacial deposit near the river that yielded this wonderful colored clay until around 1870. The dark cobalt decoration on the light gray clay is spectacular. Stands 9 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. Some light staining on the back. That's it! No chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. Three small kiln touches and a small clay void in the making.
An exceptional early Hamilton and Jones Jar seldom seen on the market today.
