Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 10" Stoneware Jar made for "H. F. Behrens, Grocer, 1217 & 1219 Market Street, Wheeling, W. VA. South Branch 3601 Jacob St."
Behrens was a grocery merchant in Wheeling who usually had his stoneware made in SW PA (probably Greensboro).
Dating around 1880, this beauty features a Tooled Rim and 7 LInes of Advertising. The advertising includes reference to their extension grocery store. Stands 10" tall.
Excellent Condition. A 3/8" chip on the underside at the edge. That's it! No rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. Kiln touch on the front in the making as shown.
