Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Large 5 Gallon Stoneware Script Jug made for "H,. D. Moller, Dover, N.J."
This jug is easily attributable to the Fulper Pottery of Flemington, New Jersey.
Dating around 1900, this beauty features Three Lines of Large and Fancy Cobalt Script Writing that fills the front. The writing is nicely centered on the jug and from side to side. This is one of the largest script pieces I have ever seen, staining 18" tall.
Good Condition. A 5/8" chip on the top of the spout, and a horizonal crack that runs from the middle of the left side to the middle of the right side about 1/2" up from the base (closeup). The bottom is secure, but the jug has a "thud" sound when tapped. No base chips, hairlines, stains, or restoration. Three 1/2" iron pings on the left side and a kiln touch to the right of the decoration in the making.
A visually pleasing piece of New Jersey history in an unusually large size.
