Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this early 2 Gallon Ovoid Jar Made and Stamped by "Goodwin & Webster."
This is the work of Horace Goodwin and Mack Webster who ran the pottery in Hartford from 1831-1840 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 60-61).
This beauty features the Early Ovoid Form with Straight Rim and Handles Up Near the Top, the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and Additional Cobalt on the Handle Terminals. Stands 12 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. Five small chips inside, one on top, and one outside the rim (1/8" to 3/8"). Four chips around the base (1/4" to 1/2"). A surface-only 6" vertical line on the left side toward the back that is not seen inside (closeup) and a shorter 3" one on the back bottom. May be partially in the firing. No seating rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
