    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Ovoid Jug made and stamped by "G. Baird."  


    This is the mark of George Baird who made pottery in Springfield Township, Ohio in the mid-19th century.  He was married to the daughter of Fitch Purdy of the Purdy family of potters. (Robert Treichler, A History of Northeast Ohio Stoneware, pp. 26-27).


    Dating the the mid-19th century, this beauty features the Early Ovoid Shape, Squared Spout, and Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash.  Stands 12" tall.


    Excellent Condition.  Some glaze lines on the right side, and some light staining from use.  No chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.  Some glaze skips on the right side and fine firing lines at the base in the making.
