Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 1/2 Gallon Preserve Jar made and stamped by "G. W. Fulper and Bros., Flemington, N. J."
This is the mark of George Fulper and his brothers who ran the family pottery under this arrangement from 1881-1890 (see M. Lelyn Branin, The Early Makers of Handcrafted Earthenware and Stoneware in Central and Southern New Jersey, pp. 132-137).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Brushed Cobalt Floral that Fills the Front with Strong Cobalt. The floral was clearly made by a decorator from the Ottman Brothers Pottery of Fort Edward N.Y where the decoration is identical to the smallest detail. Stands 10" tall.
Excellent Condition. A 3/8" chip on the inner seating ring, a 1/2" chip inside the rim, and a couple faint stain runs from use. That's it! No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. A small, partial stone ping on the last dot of the floral on the right side in the making.
An early Fulper jar not commonly seen.
