Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 5 Gallon Stoneware Crock made and stamped by the "Frank B. Norton, Worcester, Mass."
This is the mark of Frank Norton and Frederick Hancock who operated the pottery in Worcester using this stamp from 1858-1877 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 52-53).
This beauty features the pottery stamp with cobalt wash and a Large Bird on a Branch in strong cobalt blue. The bird is a full 9 1/2" from the tip of his beak to the tip of his tail feathers. Measures 12" tall and 13" wide across the top.
Excellent Condition. A narrow 3/8" chip inside the rim, and some scattered small and light stains. No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. Some small bubbles in the tips of the feathers in the making.
