    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Jar made by "Foell & Alt, East Birmingham, PA."


    This is the work of John Foell and Nicholas Alt who made pottery in Pittsburgh on the corner of Sarah & 20th St., Southside from 1857 to around 1885 when Foell left the business.  The company used the "Pitts" in their label after 1872 (Phil Shaltenbrad, Big Ware Turners, pp. 147-148).


    This beauty features the Jar Form with Top to Bottom Decoration.  From the top down are a vine with three tulips, a squiggle stripe, the company name in bold stencilled letters, the stenciled capacity number flanked by two dashes, and a squiggle and straight stripe.   Stands 13 1/2" tall.  


    Excellent Condition.  A 1/4" flake inside the rim, a 3/4" ping line on the front the right handle, and some water glass runs on the the back and surface wear on the left side from use.  That's it!  No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
