Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "Fenton & Hancock, St. Johnsbury, VT."
This is the mark of Leander Fenton, Jr. and a partner named Hancock (possibly Frederick Hancock) who ran the family pottery in St. Johnsbury in the 1850's until it burned down in 1858 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 46).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Fanciful Tree with Dotted Ground Cover, Trunk with Two Dotted Stems, a Center Star and Large Fan-Like Dotted Leaves Crowning the Top. Lots of imagination here! Stands 12" tall.
Very Good Condition. Small chips around the front and right side of the spout, wear and some small flakes to the surface, and some light staining from use. No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
