Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this early 2 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "Fenton & Hancock, St. Johnsbury, VT."

This is the mark of Leander Fenton, Jr. and a partner named Hancock (possibly Frederick Hancock) who ran the family pottery in St. Johnsbury in the 1850's until it burned down in 1858 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 46).

This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash a Large Double Kidney Flower Decoration in Brilliant Cobalt Blue.  Two fancy leaves at the base support a leafy stem displaying two flowers that resemble kidneys.  Stands 14 1/2" tall.

Fair to Good Condition.  Small chips on the front of the spout and a Y-shaped crack on the right side of the decoration coming up through the right flower and branching 2" left and 3" right near the top of that flower (closeup).  No base chips, stains, or restoration.   Displays well.
