Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Fancy Yellow Ware Batter Bowl.
The embossed decoration on this bowl is found on signed pieces by J. E. Jeffords of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the mid-19th century. This piece is pictured and discussed in Lisa S. McAllister and John L. Michel, Collector's Guide to Yellow Ware, book 1, p. 34.
This Jeffords bowl features Embossed Foliate Decoration Draped Down from the Rolled Rim and Rising Up from the Generous Footer. Even the spout is embossed. Strong mold lines and color. White lined interior. Measures 11 1/2" in diameter.
Excellent Condition. Overall very fine glaze crazing of age. Modest interior wear. Two 1/4" flakes on the base of the footer. That's it! No rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. A small glaze skip inside and 1" surface drying line inside the spout in the making.
