Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this splendid 3 Gallon Stoneware Churn made and stamped by "Frank B. Norton & Co., Worcester, Mass."
This is the work of Frank Norton and Frederick Hancock who made stoneware in Worcester from 1856-1877 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, pp. 52-53).
This beauty features a Small Size, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and about the Largest Parrot on a Plume to be found on any Norton Stoneware! The parrot is 10 1/2" long with feathered breast and dotted tail with 26 dots in all. The plume has 9 leaves and culminates with 6 dots. Bright and shiny cobalt used throughout the decoration. Stands 15 1/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. Some scattered light staining on the back. That's it! No chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. Some fine bubbling in the thickest part of the cobalt in the making.
