Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Crock made and stamped by "Evan R. Jones, Pittston, Pa."
Jones potted in Pittston in the 1870's and 1880's (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 34-37).
This beauty features the pottery stamp with cobalt wash and a Large Brushed Cobalt Sideways Chrysanthemum. The flower has 11 leaves and a bloom with 13 petals. Measuers 9 1/4" tall and 10" wide across the top.
Excellent Condition. A 1/4" chip inside the rim, a series of small chip along the top of the rim in the back that appear to be in the making when separated from the crock above it in the kiln (closeup). No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. Some cobalt loss on the far right of the flower, and couple 1 1/2" surface-only firing lines on the base in the making.
