Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this early 19th Century 2 Gallon Ovoid Jar from New York.
Dating around 1825, this beauty features a Semi-Ovoid Form, Flared Chollar, Tooled Shoulder, Applied Handles, and a Flower on Each Side. One flower has a center circle with an outer circle accented with dashes, and finished off with a ring of 14 dotted petals. The other flower a center blossom with a dotted center and 7 dotted petals within a circle polished off with 15 dotted petals. All the decooration is executed with a slip cup in bold cobalt.
Excellent condition. A 3/8" chip on the rim above one handle, a 5/8" chip above the other handle, a 1/2" chip at the base, and some faint interconnected surface lines in places from age. That's it! No inner rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
It is very, very nice and unusual early jar.
