Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 1/2 Gallon Stoneware Preserve Jar made and stamped by "E. & L. P. Norton, Bennington, VT."
This is the mark of Edward Norton and Luman Preston Norton, the son of Julius Norton, who worked together in the family pottery from 1861-1881 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 44)
This beauty sports a clear pottery stamp with cobalt wash and a More Unique Norton Decoration- A Fancy Floral Bouquet that Incorporates Six Leaves, Four Dotted Stems, and Three Stems with Starburst Flowers. Stands 10 3/8" tall.
Excellent Condition. Minor nibbles on the interior seating ring where a lid would sit, two chips inside the rim (1/4", 3/8"), and a very faint surface X on the base not showing inside. That's it! No base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
