Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 4 Gallon Stoneware Churn made and stamped by "E. & L. P. Norton, Bennington, VT."
This is the mark of Edward Norton and Luman Preston Norton, the son of Julius Norton, who worked together in the family pottery from 1861-1881 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 44).
This beauty sports a Handsome Tall and Narrow Form, the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Stylized Floral Bouquet in Gorgeous Bennington Cobalt Blue! Glassy and shiny glaze. Stands proudly at 16 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. Two minor rust stains in the back. That's it! No chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. Looks like it was stored away shortly after the making and never used! Exceptionally clean example.
