    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Stoneware Crock made and stamped by "E. & L. P. Norton, Bennington, VT."


    This is the mark of Edward Norton and Luman Preston Norton, the son of Julius Norton, who worked together in the family pottery from 1861-1881 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 44)


    This beauty sports a clear pottery stamp with cobalt wash and a Signature Norton Decoration- A Fancy Floral Bouquet Executed with a Slip Cup.  Lots of leaves, blossoms.tendrils, and dots going everywhere!  Bright Bennington cobalt throughout the decoration on a light clay for strong contrast.   Measures 10 1/4" tall and 11" wide across the top. 


    Decorations on E. & L. P. Norton pieces are not usually this elaborate.  It harks back to the decoration found n J. & E Norton pieces.


    Very Good Condition.  A 1/4" chip inside the rim, nice chips outside the rim (1/8" to 3/4"), and some small stains on the back.  No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.  A 2" drying line on the bottom in the back that wraps under 2" (closeup) in the making.
