Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug made and stamped by "E. & L. P. Norton, Bennington, VT."
This is the mark of Edward Norton and Luman Preston Norton, the son of Julius Norton, who worked together in the family pottery from 1861-1881 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 44)
This beauty sports a clear pottery stamp with cobalt wash and a Signature Norton Decoration- A Fancy Floral Bouquet Executed with a Slip Cup. Bright Bennington cobalt throughout the decoration on a light clay for strong contrast. Stands 13 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. Three 3/8" chips on the top of the edge of the spout, and some staining close to the bottom from use. No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
