Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this gorgeous 1 1/2 Gallon Stoneware Preserve Jar made and stamped by "E. & L. P. Norton, Bennington, VT."

This is the mark of Edward Norton and Luman Preston Norton, the son of Julius Norton, who worked together in the family pottery from 1861-1881 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 44).

This beauty sports a Small Size, Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Signature Norton Decorations harking back to the days of J. & E. Norton: the Elaborate Floral Bouquet in Brilliant Cobalt Blue.   The bouquet has two center florals surrounded by leaves and tendrils! The decoration was applied with a slip cup. Nice shiny cobalt and exceptionally clean glaze.  Stands 9 3/4" tall.

Excellent Condition.  Two 1/8" nibbles on the inner rim where a lid would sit, four small chips inside the rim (1/8" to 1/4"), and a very faint, small Y surface craze line on the back.  That's it!  No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
