Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 4 Gallon Stoneware Churn made and stamped by "E. & L. P. Norton, Bennington, VT."
This is the mark of Edward Norton and Luman Preston Norton, the son of Julius Norton, who worked together in the family pottery from 1861-1881 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 44)
This beauty sports a clear pottery stamp with cobalt wash and a signature Norton decoration- A Fancy Floral Bouquet Executed with a Slip Cup. Bright Bennington cobalt throughout the decoration. Stands 17 1/4" tall.
Very Good Condition. Six chips inside the rim (1/8" to 1"), three chips outside the rim (1/8" to 5/8"), and a small stain on the back bottom. No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
