Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Rare Merchant Jar made for "E. J. Orr & Co., Dealers in Groceries, Queensware, Glassware, & C., Main Street, Parnassus, PA."
This jare was made in SW Pennsylvania, possibly by T. F. Reppert or Williams and Reppert of Greensboro.
Dating around 1880 to 1890, this beauty features Three Top Stripes and a Bottom Stripe that Frame Six Lines of Advertising and the Capacity Number Below Framed by Leaves. Stands 11 3/4" tall.
Considering the small size of Parnassus and how few jars from this town are on record as selling, there cannot be too many of these jars out there.
Very Good Condition. Small chips around the bottom fold of the tooled rim, and glaze wear from use. No top rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.
