Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Churn made and stamped by "E. A. Montell, Olean, N.Y."
This is the mark of Edwin A. Montell who ran the pottery in Olean from 1869 to 1874 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 73.
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Brushed Cobalt Triple Tulip Decoration. Four leaves support three stems, each with a blossom with 6 Petals. Stands 15" tall.
Very Good Condition. Even wear around the inner lid seating ring and inside the rim, a nearly invisible 3" hairline below the right handle (closeup 1), and a Y-shaped hairline on the back (closeup 2). No outer rim or base chips, cracks, stains, or restoration.
