    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Rare 2 Gallon Semi-Ovoid Jar made and stamped by "D. Sowers."


    This is the mark of Daniel Sowers (born 1825) of Brush Creek, Muskingum County, Ohio in the 1850's.   A nearly identical jar is pictured in James L. Murphy's Checklist of 19th Century Bluebird Potters and Potteries in Muskingum County, Ohio, pp. 368-40 as shown in the picture above. 


    This beauty features a Semi-Ovoid Form, , Finely Tooled Rim, and Impressed Pottery Stamp. Stands 11 1/2" tall.


    Excellent Condition.  Three small and flat chips inside the rim (1/8" to 1/4").  That's it!  No outer rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  Slightly out-of-round in the making. 


    A rare Ohio jar.
