Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Ovoid Jug made and stamped by "D. Roberts, & Co., Utica."
This is the work of Daniel Roberts who ran a pottery in Utica from 1827 to 1830 (William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 69).
This beauty features an Early Ovoid Form, Bold Impressed Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Brushed Cobalt Tulip with 5 Leaves and a Blossom with 8 Petals. Stands 11 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. Some old molasses inside at the bottom, two small nibbles on the spout (1/8"), two flakes on the bottom edge (1/2"), and some staining on the back.. No hairlines, cracks, or restoration. A stone ping on the left side toward the front, and kiln touches on the left side toward the back (closeup) in the making.
