• Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Stoneware 2 Gallon Preserve Jar made and stamped by "Cowden & Wilcox, Harrisburg, PA."


    This is the mark of John Wallace Cowden and Isaac Wilcox who ran the pottery in Harrisburg with this stamp from 1863 to 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners , pp. 55-58).


    Thus beauty features the pottery stamp with cobalt wash and a Large Sideways Chrysanthemum with 6 Leaves and a Blossom with 13 Petals.  The decoration is executed with a Brush in strong cobalt.  Stands 11 3/4" tall 


    Very Good Condition.  A 5/8" flat chip on top of the rim in the back, and two 1/2" chips outside the rim.  The one above the right ear is reglued (closeup).  No inner rim or base chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  Some bubbling in the tips of brushstrokes in the making.
