Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Batter Jug made and stamped by "Cowden & Wilcox, Harrisburg, PA."

This is the mark of John Wallace Cowden and Isaac Wilcox who ran the pottery in Harrisburg with this stamp from 1863 to 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 55-58).

This beauty features a Chrysanthemum and a Garland around the Spout, and the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Sideways Tulip on the Back.  Additional cobalt accent on the edges of the handle holders and bottom pour handle.  Dark and shiny cobalt used throughout the decoration.  Comes with an old handle and top and spout caps.  Stands 8 1/2" tall.

Excellent Condition.  A 3/8" chip on underside of the back bottom pour handle, and some staining around the rim and top of the spout.  That's it!  No rim. or spout or base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.  Kiln touch on the back in the making.  Top cap has an old coat of paint.
