Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this splend 3 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "Cowden & Wilcox, Harrisburg, PA."
This is the mark of John Wallace Cowden and Isaac Wilcox who ran the pottery in Harrisburg with this stamp from 1863 to 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners , pp. 55-58).
Thus beauty features a Semi-Ovoid Form, the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, and a Flowering Plant. The plant has 9 Leaves at the Base, Two Buds, and Two Blossoms on lightly leaved stems. The decoration is executed with shiny cobalt. Stands 15 1/2" tall.
Very Good Condition. A surface ping line on the spout (closeup), and three stains runs from use. No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
