Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Jar made and stamped by "Cowden & Wilcox, Harrisburg, PA."
This is the mark of John Wallace Cowden and Isaac Wilcox who ran the pottery in Harrisburg with this stamp from 1863 to 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 55-58).
This beauty features the pottery stamp with cobalt wash and a Large Brushed Cobalt Floral with 14 Leaves and 2 Blossoms with 10 Petals Each. The floral fills the entire front of the jar. Not a common decoration for this pottery. Stands 12 3/4" tall.
Very Good Condition. A minor 1/4" chip in the inner rim and inside the top rim, four chips on the top or side of the top rim (1/4" to 1"), and a 2" faint hairline from the rim on the left side of the pottery stamp (closeup). No base chips, cracks, stains, or restoration. Some scattered bubbling in the thickest part of the cobalt.
