Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Ovoid Jar made and stamped by "Cowden & Wilcox, Harrisburg, PA."
This is the mark of John Wallace Cowden and Isaac Wilcox who ran the pottery in Harrisburg with this stamp from 1863 to 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners , pp. 55-58).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash, Cobalt Accents at the Handle Terminals, and a Cluster of Three Cherries Hanging from a Vine. The decoration is executed with strong cobalt by a skilled artist. Measures 11 1/2" tall and 10" wide across the top.
Very Good Condition. A narrow 1/2" chip inside the rim, and a 5 1/2" hairline from below the rim in the back (does not reach the top), of which only the lower half shows inside (closeup). No outer rim or base chips, stains, or restoration.
