Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "Cowden & Wilcox, Harrisburg, PA."
This is the mark of John Wallace Cowden and Isaac Wilcox who ran the pottery in Harrisburg with this stamp from 1863 to 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners , pp. 55-58).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp and Capacity Number with Cobalt Wash, Cobalt Accents at the Handle Terminals, and Two Upright Brushed Cobalt Leaves. Pretty blue used throughout the decoration by a skilled artist. Stands 13 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. Two 1/4" flakes on the back of the spout, a 1/2" horizontal surface ping line on the front of the spout, a 1 1/4" chip on the bottom of the right side, and some staining on the right side. No hairlines, cracks, or restoration. The chip on the right side of the spout is in the making and glazed over.
