Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "Cowden & Wilcox, Harrisburg, PA."
This is the mark of John Wallace Cowden and Isaac Wilcox who ran the pottery in Harrisburg with this stamp from 1863 to 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners , pp. 55-58).
This beauty features the Pottery Stamp with Cobalt Wash and a Brushed Cobalt Chrysanthemum in Bright and Shiny Cobalt. The decoration is comprised of 5 leaves and a blossom with 10 petals. Stands 13" tall.
Good Condition. A 1" chip on the right side of the spout back by the handle, and some staining on the front bottom. No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration. The slight indentation on the front of the spout and some hot spots at the base in the back are in the making.
