Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Jug made and stamped by "Cowden & Wilcox, Harrisburg, PA."
This is the mark of John Wallace Cowden and Isaac Wilcox who ran the pottery in Harrisburg with this stamp from 1863 to 1880 (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners , pp. 55-58).
Thus beauty features the pottery stamp with cobalt wash and a large freehand Chrysanthemum executed with strong cobalt. The flower has 5 leaves and a blossom with 14 petals. Stands 12 7/8" tall.
Very Good Condition. A 1" chip on the spout on the right side back by the handle, and some staining on the front bottom. No base chips, hairlines, cracks, or restoration.
