Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 2 Gallon Decorated Cake Crock.
This beauty is easy to attribute to Richard Remmey who ran the family pottery in Philadelphia from the 1860's until the turn of the century (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 8-10).
Circa 1870, this beauty features a Larger Brushed Cobalt Leaf on Each Side and Additional Cobalt at the Handle Terminals. Bright cobalt brushstrokes on a light gray palette. Measures 6" tall and 10 1/4" wide across the top.
Good Condition. Some water glass staining inside from use, five chips (1/8" to 3/8") and minor nibbles inside the rim, a series of small chips outside the rim, and a 3" faint hairline from the rim on one side (closeup). No base chips or restoration.
