Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 1 Gallon Stoneware Cake Crock from New Jersey.
Dating around 1860, this beauty features a Carefully Tooled Rim to Facilitate Tying Down a Cover, a Freehand Cobalt Floral on the Front and Fancy Capacity Number (1 G) on the Back. Measures 5" tall and 10 1/2" wide.
I think it is mismarked because it is at least a 1 1/2 gallon.
Good Condtion. Six chips around the outside of the rim (1/4" to 5/8"), a faint 1" vertical hairline on the right side base that wraps under 2" (closeup), and glaze wear around the middle near the base. No inner rim or base chips, rim down hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. A kiln touch on the top of the floral in the making.
