Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful 3 Gallon Ovoid Stoneware Decorated Jar.
The decoration makes it easy to attribute this jar to Richard Remmey who made stoneware in Philadelphia at the family pottery from the 1860's to the turn of the century (Phil Shaltenbrand, Big Ware Turners, pp. 8-9).
Circa 1860, this beauty features a Semi-Ovoid Form, Tall and Slightly Flared Rim, Inscribed Shoulder Bands, Rounded Footer, and a Garland of Brushed Cobalt Leaves and Stylized Grapes Around the Middle. Bold and shiny cobalt throughout! Stands 13 3/4" tall.
Excellent Condition. A single 1" glaze spider. That's it! No chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. A minor drying line inside at the rim that shows as a fine 2" line outside (closeups). In the making and not damage.
