    Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this Little 1/2 Gallon Butter Crock made for "Chas. R. Miller, Fancy Groceries, 2339 Chapline St., Wheeling, W. VA." 


    Circa 1880, this beauty features the Uncommon 1/2 Gallon Size, Tooled Rim, and Five Lines of Stenciled History.  All the writing is crisp and clear.  Measures 5 1/2" tall and 6 1/4" wide across the top.


    I have not encountered this merchant before.  


    Excellent Condition.  A 1/4" chip near the bottom on the right side where a stone or impurity popped out, and two 1/4" chips on the underside at the edge.  That's it!  No rim chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration.  A 1/2" stone ping inside the rim in the making.
