Coming to you from Doc's Crocks is this wonderful Early 1 Gallon Ovoid Jug made and stamped by "C. Boynton & Co., Troy."
This is the work of Calvin Boynton who ran a pottery in Troy from 1829-1835 (See William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 66).
This beauty sports an Early Ovoid Form, Impressed Pottery Stamp, and a Brushed Cobalt Floral. Stands 11 1/2" tall.
Excellent Condition. Some small chips around the spout, an "x" surface line on the back (closeup 1). and a narrow 1/2" chip on the base. No spout chips, hairlines, cracks, stains, or restoration. A salt drip above the pottery stamp, a horizontal firing line near the base halfway around (closeup 2), and some glazed over chips on the bottom- all in the making.
